A quick beachcombing session at a popular seaside resort produced 50 discarded bottles, many of them broken.
Reporter Paul Holden trawled the sand around Worthing pier and filled a rubbish sack within minutes.
This litter is not only unsightly, it can also be dangerous as small children play just yards from these bottles.
Clearly those who drop the litter carry the can for the blame. But it is still a problem which shames the resort.
Worthing Borough Council said it had tried to clear some of the glass but it was continually scoured by the tide and can reappear days later.
Litter is a problem that affects all the popular beaches on the Sussex coast, particularly during peak season.
Last year's Big Beach Boutique, organised by Fatboy Slim in Brighton highlighted the problem.
Dozens of litterpickers soon had the beach looking pristine again but fresh crowds invariably bring along fresh rubbish.
It is up to the council to ensure there are enough bins provided and enough people to clean the mess every morning.
It is up to everyone to make sure they leave the beach just as nicely as they found it.
