Commuters suffered more misery on the trains when a track buckled on the main line between London and Brighton.
And they have been told there is no quick fix solution to the chaos caused by the prolonged hot weather.
Trains were delayed for up to 40 minutes yesterday when a part of the track between Burgess Hill and Wivelsfield stations warped in the heat.
At one stage, disgruntled passengers had to leave their train and wait at Horsham station for further announcements.
The line was fixed shortly after 4pm but passengers suffered long delays - compounded by a 60mph speed limit.
