Firefighters were called after a three-car collision involving a taxi.
No one was injured in the accident, in Heene Road, Worthing, just after 9pm on Friday but it was first thought that fuel was leaking from one of the vehicles.
A fire crew from Worthing quickly established the leaking liquid was radiator fluid.
A spokesman said: "We just moved the cars, made them safe and swept up the glass."
