Albion players have punted on former team-mate Bobby Zamora continuing his goalscoring prowess with Spurs.

Bookies were offering odds of 5-1 against Zamora bagging ten goals for Tottenham in the Premiership this season following his £1.5 move from the Seagulls.

John Piercy, Albion's former Spurs midfielder, revealed: "I've got that. I think a lot of the players here have.

"Most of us saw that one and we all jumped on it. I think that's a good price.

"Because he's moved up to a higher level that doesn't mean he is not going to score goals. He is a natural."

With the new Premiership season just two days away, Piercy has predicted Zamora will be a big hit at his old club.

"I know a lot of people came down to watch him last season from Spurs, not just Glenn Hoddle.

"I actually spoke to Colin Calderwood, the reserve manager. I told him that Bobby is a good player and without doubt has everything he needs to succeed at Tottenham.

"There will be more competition for places but Spurs over the last ten years have never really had a 25 or 30 goal a season player, so if you are in the squad as a striker you will be rotated.

"I am not saying Bobby is going to be that 30 goal player, but we all know he is capable of getting on a run and you could easily see Bobby and Robbie Keane playing together."

Piercy's hopes of forcing his way into Albion's first team at the start of the season have been wrecked by colitis.

The ex-England youth international, 24 next month, explained: "Your intestines and bowels can grow ulcers which leads to bleeding. I've had tests and all the signs are that I've got a particularly mild form of it.

"Tablets will clear it. I am back in training but it is an illness where you can feel weak a lot. It causes you not to eat and you lose weight, because you are going to the toilet all the time.

"Hopefully the drugs will control that. Once I get the weight back and I'm eating fine then I should get the fitness back. The gaffer has told me to do what I want to do.

"It is frustrating. I was getting a thumbs up from everyone and an indication that I might be playing, but what can you do? I've just got to keep my head up."

Andrei Kanchelskis is likely to sign a three-month contract with Albion by the end of the week. His agent Andew Blocksage said: "There are a couple of little things to sort out. If they are done he will sign."
