Defending champions Hastings Priory could retain the Shepherd Neame Sussex League title on Saturday.

Priory have a 46-point lead over closest rivals Horsham going into their last three matches and another victory could clinch the crown if other results go their way.

If Hastings pick up maximum points and Horsham anything less than 16 points, Jason Finch's men cannot be caught.

Hastings beat lowly Worthing by 32 runs on Saturday in a match which produced a staggering 664 runs while Horsham had a two-wicket win at East Grinstead.

George Campbell hit 200 not out for Hastings as they made 348-4 declared in 48.3 overs. His innings included 26 fours and six sixes and he was well supported by James Pooley (70 not out). Michael Quinn took 3-89.

The task looked almost impossible for Worthing but acting skipper Dominic Clapp cracked Worthing's best ever individual league score of 156 as Dave Renham (58) and Ben Shelford (38) supported but the last five wickets fell cheaply as Worthing were dismissed for 316.

Hastings skipper Finch took 3-50.

Horsham dismissed East Grinstead for 193 at Saint Hill with skipper Alex Edwards (92 not out) running out of partners.

Horsham's Chris Nash (3-58) and Michael Bright (3-13) polished off the innings.

Horsham stuttered to 70-7 but recovered as skipper Scott Stratton (69 not out) led the way. Stratton had an escape when Grinstead thought he had been caught at mid-wicket but, after consulting, the umpires gave him not out. Edwards grabbed 5-49.

Chichester beat bottom club Stirlands by 64 runs after posting 203-5 declared with Daniel Oliver (58), Peter Towner (38) and Kim Wulff (36) contributing.

Stirlands were dismissed for 139 despite 54 from Aussie Shane Cleary as home skipper Nick Dyer took 4-59.

Neil Budden claimed two victims and passed the club's league record of 331 wickets.

Brighton and Hove had a comfortable 54-run triumph over visitors Steyning. Martin Adams (62) and Damon Preo (50) top scored in Brighton's 232-9 declared as left-arm spinner Mark Fraser returned 5-66.

Steyning skipper Giles Haywood (70) led the reply but his side tumbled to 182 all out despite recovering from 106-8. Preo (3-42), Stuart Collier (3-19) and Stephen Ades (2-42) were the pick of the bowlers.

In division two, St James Montefiore, relegated a year ago, look certain to make a quick return to the premier as they need a single point from their final game to be sure of a top-two finish.

Lewes Priory have two to play and trail St James by 26 points.

Cuckfield have a mathematical chance of edging out Lewes.

On Saturday St James enjoyed a 29-run win at Roffey after making 234-9 with Mark Johnson (64) and Mark Gardner (64) top scoring as Mark Jefferson (6-78) starred for the hosts.

In reply, Jefferson hit 123 but his side were dismissed for 205 as Andy Wellfare (5-64) did the damage.

Kashif Ibrahim was again to the fore with bat and ball as Lewes Priory won by seven wickets at Sidley.

He took 4-80 as Sidley amassed 167 all out (Imran Javed 33) and steered Lewes home with 72 not out.

Cuckfield ended Littlehampton's promotion hopes with a 62-run victory. The visitors made 237-7 declared with Nick Patterson (68), Andy Middleton (68) and Chris Mole (54) on song before Littlehampton were felled for 175 (Andy Northcote 51, Stephen Booth 3-51, Neil Divall 3-29).

Preston Nomads beat basement side Bexhill by 58 runs after making 260-9 declared with William Davis (83) and David Smith (57) chief run-makers as Matt Blackman returned 5-79.

David Munro (56) and Peter Lewis (34) gave Bexhill hope but they fell for 202 as a clutch of bowlers took two wickets apiece.
