I wholeheartedly agree with Mr Hopper's comments about 21st Century building developments (Letters, July 29).
We can only consider applications which are put before us but are actively supporting innovative design and sustainable building methods.
The planning committee frequently approves developments which are either car-free or have restricted car parking.
I attended a planning seminar on sustainable development, hosted by the South East England Development Agency, where we looked at environmentally friendly development for the future.
Buildings which re-use or harness natural resources will be more attractive, cheaper to run and better for the environment as a whole.
-Coun Bob Carden, chairman, Brighton and Hove Planning Committee, Brighton and Hove City Council
