Having been to every Airbourne airshow, I must write a few comments.
My family and I were on beach near the Wish Tower slopes during the tragic crash which killed former Red Arrows pilot Ted Girdler.
We also were among the thousands who signed the books of condolence the following day.
However, we are dismayed that there appears to be no lasting tribute or memorial to a pilot who gave so much to providing entertainment.
I must also comment on the broadcasted comments of Ron Cussens during the final day at Airbourne 2003 during which he stated that this was the "biggest and best yet".
Although the numbers of people actually attending Airbourne were up, the actual flying displays were somewhat disappointing and not up to the normal standard.
There was no F16, no Harrier and no civilian helicopter display.
The displays were also often difficult to watch due to the disrespectful moving of people on beaches etc during displays.
Surely they can be asked to refrain from moving so that others can enjoy what they presumably went there for?
The PA was also woeful with the announcements either breaking up or being inaudible.
The representative from the Utterly Butterly team must have had a non existent microphone.
Finally, for those of us who paid to attend the bandstand on the last night the lack of planning must be highlighted and it was also reprehensible for the "disco" from the pier to continue playing throughout, especially during the final spitfire display.
Surely this can be addressed before next year?
