I can keep silent no longer about the Atkins diet. Despite all the press that it has received, scant attention has been given to similar, just as successful but healthier diets.

The Michel Montignac diet is based on the same principles as the Atkins but makes clear that carbohydrate consumption is essential.

On the Montignac regime, both carbohydrate and protein are consumed. However, to avoid potential weight gain, they are eaten separately.

By separating a carbohydrate meal (no fat, unrefined carbohydrates) from a protein meal (fats and protein), the Montignac method ensures you receive the nutrition you need and lose just as much weight as on the Atkins.

The Montignac book also offers advice on health issues incurred by a high fat diet.

The Montignac, a French version of the Atkins, is based on the glycemic index.

Despite ruling out refined carbohydrates such as white bread and white pasta, it by no means rules out the carbohydrate rate your body needs.

Surely it is important that the public is informed of diets like the Montignac which offer a healthier option to the Atkins, with the same weight loss?
