The co-founder of one of Sussex's largest companies died leaving more than £14 million in his will.
Jim Hartnett, who died in February, helped set up Worthing-based Eurotherm in 1965.
The company, which makes control and measurement instruments, has become one of the world's leaders in its field.
He was made a CBE for services to the industry and was a fellow at London's Imperial School of Medicine.
Mr Hartnett, from West Grinstead, near Horsham, left most of the cash to relatives in Sussex.
