In reply to Ian Hunt (Letters, August 27), I partly agree with him about the venom directed at the poorest in our society but I must take him to task about his comments on pensioners.
Most of us did move around to get better jobs. I was earning £9 a week and got married on it in 1954 and ran a motor bike.
I retired in 1988, with a pension and savings enough to see me through my old age.
But with Gordon Brown dipping into pension funds, we OAPs now find ourselves being systematically robbed.
Last year, when we were given a 2.3 per cent increase, Brighton and Hove City Council increased tax by 16 per cent with a projected ten per cent increase next year.
We have also contributed to the unemployed with our taxes.
