I have now had the result of my enquiries into the banning of Kite Buggies on the Greensward and the erection of signs all along Marine Crescent and Marine Drive in Worthing.
Apparently this came about following a meeting involving the borough council's insurance officer, a health and safety representative, the manager of parks and foreshores, a legal officer and the executive member for leisure.
Clearly the council was concerned as to its position if there was an accident and, following the banning of the sport in other local authorities, officers took action under current bye laws to affect the ban.
They are not banned on the sand at low tide.
This is not good news for the those who have enjoyed their sport without hindrance for some time. It is not good news for local democracy as there was no consultation whatever either with the councillors, residents or the para kiters and the fact the signs were erected in such a clandestine manner is a concern.
