Police today appealed for witnesses after two men and a woman conned their way into a man's home pretending to be from the "water board".
The three entered the 43-year-old man's home in Windmill Platt, Handcross, at 7.30pm on Saturday.
They told the man they were from the water board and went through the house searching for valuables before leaving empty-handed in a green Mercedes.
Police spokesman PC Tim Hadfield said: "I would advise all residents not to let any person into their property who does no have identification and to check with the company which they say they are from.
"If they are genuine, then they won't mind waiting."
Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Hadfield at Haywards Heath police station.
