At weekends I work as a security officer in Brighton. Starting work at 6.30pm, I noticed a large group of males getting drunk and selling drugs openly in front of police cameras.
I'm talking not only about cannabis but ecstacy, crack cocaine and heroin.
The dealers had young girls (approximately 13-16 years old) carrying drugs for them.
With drugs comes violence and the first major incident happened at about 7pm. One male hit another over the head with a wine bottle, making him fall over bleeding.
Then the male and two female friends repeatedly kicked him. A passer-by called 999 and two-and-a-half hours later the police arrived.
No action was taken as the injured party had left.
Nobody searched for drugs and the police left. I don't blame the police for not getting involved as their resources are already stretched protecting the law-abiding, let alone having to protect criminals from other criminals.
My most worrying observation was the mothers who think it's acceptable to be enjoying themselves with their drug-dealing friends until the early hours while their children or babies are sat there.
Shouldn't social services be down there spotting these unfit parents? These children are at risk.
I advise any parents who wish to take their children to the beach in the daytime to avoid the beaches opposite the Brighton Centre and Odeon cinema as this goes on all day and night on these beaches. And nobody does a thing about it.
