Organisers of a dance music project aiming to produce the next Fatboy Slim are urgently seeking a sponsor.

Gravity - The Force is a countywide project due to hit the streets of Worthing soon.

Designed to inspire youngsters aged between 13 and 19, it will provide them with opportunities to develop their creative skills and knowledge of music technology.

A programme of workshops in DJ-ing, MC-ing and music production is due to be held at Maybridge, Glyn Owen and Sidney Walter youth centres in October and November.

Once all the workshops are completed, a club night will be organised to give all those involved the chance to show off their new skills.

The organisers also want to offer sessions in breakdancing and street dancing but say they don't yet have enough money.

Each dance session would cost £80 to run and, if as many young people as possible are to benefit, about ten are needed.

The project is being organised by Worthing Borough Council and West Sussex County Council.

Maurice Tucker, borough council Cabinet member for leisure and cultural services, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for young people in the town to experience at first hand the skills which go into creating the sounds they enjoy listening to in their leisure time.

"The borough council, along with our partners, is already committed to making this happen but we would love to make it even more special by including a dance element to the project.

"I appeal to the private sector to help us engage our young people, some of whom may be turned off joining in with more traditional activities, through this very important community initiative."
