Small businesses were today urged to protect themselves from the growing threat of computer viruses.
The Argus revealed how Sussex Police and local authorities in the county had been hit by a virus which affected their networks.
But while the problem proved a headache for these large organisations, small firms could go out of business.
And Sussex Enterprise, which supports local firms, is urging managers to take urgent steps to protect their systems.
Mark Brunet, the group's IT adviser, said: "There is a wave of computer viruses sweeping the globe, the most dangerous being the Blaster and Nachi worms and the SoBig virus.
"Small companies are particularly vulnerable as they do not always have the technical backup to deal with IT problems.
"The risks and potential effects from computer viruses are growing rapidly, especially as more people go on-line.
"Getting the right advice and anti-virus products can save a small business a great deal of time and money in the long run."
