Bognor returned from Northamptonshire empty handed after they were convincingly beaten by Kettering Town, who dropped out of the Football Conference last season,

Bognor found it hard going against a side physically stronger and bigger than themselves and rarely threatened in the opening 45 minutes, as they spent long periods without possession.

The Poppies had chances to go into the break ahead but somehow Bognor found themselves still on level terms.

However, Bognor's joy was short lived as Kettering took the lead in the 50th minute when Paul Fewings headed home an Ian King corner.

Matt Murphy increased the lead in the 66th minute when he again took advantage of Bognor's failure to deal with setpieces to head home another King corner.

The points were well and truly sewn up when Eliot Pascahlis rifled home in the 83rd minute, having created the opening himself by winning the ball in midfield.

Defender John Price pulled a goal back for Bognor albeit a consolation effort in the 85th minute when he powerfully headed home a David Birmingham corner.

Boss Jack Pearce was not only disappointed with another defeat on the road but also new additions to an already lengthy injury list. Tom White required hospital treatment and stitches to a head wound and Kevin Murphy and Steve Sargent picked up ankle knocks.
