Confidence in the stock market is increasing, with almost half of private investors expecting the market to go up during the next six months, research showed.
The FTSE 100 has risen by about 29 per cent since it reached a low of 3,287 on March 12, and 48 per cent of investors expect the recovery to continue, according to Halifax Share Dealing.
The group added this confidence was also matched by a 69 per cent increase in the number of people it had seen buying or selling shares since January.
Overall, people expect the FTSE to have reached 4269 in six months' time, compared with a level of 4100 when the research was carried out.
Men were slightly more confident than women, predicting it would stand at 4296, while women put the figure at 4208.
