Steve Dentash (Letters, September 15) referred to Lord Attenborough's birthday party at the University of Sussex and the difficulty of obtaining Oh! What A Lovely War on video or DVD.
I can report that Paramount Pictures, the distributors of the film, were present at the party and announced their intention to release the film in both formats in celebration of Lord Attenborough's 80th birthday.
They had a film crew present at the party and will include this footage as well as Lord Attenborough's director's notes on the DVD.
The film was originally released in 1969 but no official video was ever released because of problems over the music copyright.
These have been resolved and film buffs around the world should be able to obtain, within the next six months or so, copies of what many describe as the greatest anti-war film every made.
