A reward of £500 was offered by police today to trap an arsonist responsible for a summer of chaos in Haywards Heath.
Firefighters were called to attacks which caused tens of thousands of pounds' damage during August and September, including a huge blaze at the NTC building in South Road.
Cars were also destroyed by the arsonist.
Police believe they know who is responsible but need firmer evidence to make an arrest.
District Community safety officer Shirley Deakin said a similar reward in East Grinstead, offered by the town council, brought an end to attacks.
She said: "The last two weeks of summer are the times when we get the most arson attacks. We will have to see how it goes from here."
A fire brigade spokesman said: "To combat the problem firefighters have spent many hours delivering fire safety leaflets, speaking to local residents and community leaders warning of the dangers of abandoned vehicles."
Police ask anyone with information to call 0845 6070999.
