Political drama, a cross-dressing Little Red Riding Hood, fat balding gigolos and Jenny Eclair's obligatory gags about breaking wind - here's our pick.
THE DEATH OF NELSON, New Venture Theatre, Brighton, Sept 19-20: A play about people and their politics, this production is set between Thatcherism and the dawn of the Blair era. Comprising a series of one-sided dialogues, it follows a man and his godson, Nelson, named by radical parents in honour of Mandela. As the years pass, we witness the political awakening of his conservative godfather. Starts 7.45pm, tickets £7/£6. Call 01273 746118.
JENNY ECLAIR, Capitol Theatre, Horsham, Sept 21: Middle age has worked wonders for Eclair. Not that it has tamed her shamelessly aggressive, foul-mouthed, chain-smoking persona. Heaven forbid. But turning 40 has added an extra dimension to her comedy. Her hysterical set includes jokes about her appalling relationships with men and the obligatory farting gags. Starts 8pm, £12.50/£8. Call 01403 268689.
KNEEHIGH THEATRE PRESENTS CRY WOLF, Corn Exchange, Brighton, Sept 23-26: Fresh from the Edinburgh Fringe comes this fairytale which transforms two children's tales into a dark and chilling piece. Performed by the Truro-based Kneehigh Theatre Company using music, humour and dramatic visuals, Little Red Riding Hood becomes a raunchy cross-dressing affair. Starts 8pm, tickets £12. Call 01273 709709.
GIGOLO, Komedia, Brighton, Sept 25: In the tradition of cinema smash The Full Monty is this comedy about two chancers down on their luck who turn their hands to being gigolos. They're a bit fat, bald and too close to 40 but, with dismal prospects, there is nothing else for it. Starts 8pm, tickets £8.50/£6.50. Call 01273 647100.
