Crawley's Ross Minter was left frustrated when he returned to the ring against John Marshall at Goresbrook Leisure Centre, Dagenham, on Thursday.
The judges declared the six-round contest a draw.
Welterweight Minter, 24, was hoping for a victory to boost his chances of a first title fight in the next few months.
But Marshall, 26, a southpaw from Derbyshire, was always a tough opponent.
Minter plans to fight again in Portsmouth on October 11 on the undercard for a Tony Oakey title bid.
