I disagree with Steve Moore (Letters, September 23) about the coverage of Sussex winning the County Cricket Championship.

He thinks this should have taken preference over the news that Brighton may, at long last, have a new ice rink.

I congratulate Sussex on winning the championship but, let's face it, it was only their first win in 164 years.

On the other hand, a new ice rink would mean the return of the Brighton Tigers ice hockey team.

The Tigers were the most successful and famous of all sports teams in Sussex.

They won many national competitions and they beat many foreign national teams who were touring Britain.

The Tigers were genuinely world-famous.

Ever since Brighton Council connived to demolish the rink in the 1960s, Brighton has not had much to cheer on the sporting scene.

The sooner the Tigers return, the better. The people of Brighton deserve it.
