County League division one leaders Chichester were denied by Andy Price's late strike as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Horsham YMCA.
Paul Thomas had put Chi ahead but Price levelled in the last minute.
Chi boss Adie Girdler said: "Overall a draw was a fair result. I said before it would be our hardest game of the season and it was."
Eastbourne Town went second with a 3-0 win at Hassocks despite missing top scorer Yemi Odubade through injury. Graham Holman (two) and Bobby Godfrey got the goals.
Manager Dave Winterton said: "It was nice to win 3-0 without Yemi playing. It proves we can score goals without him."
Redhill recorded their first league win of the season with an impressive 1-0 success at home to Whitehawk.
Stephen Gillett got the only goal with a 39th-minute header from a free kick although Redhill needed a late goalline clearance from Paul Whitthread to make sure of victory.
Rye and Iden United went third in the table with a 2-1 win at home to Pagham. Peter Baker set up Scott Price for the opener, Neil Barrett replied for the Lions but Richard Calloway headed the winner.
Syd Harman scored on his debut as Hailsham won 2-1 at Shoreham. Sixteen-year-old Nik Chamberlain made it 2-0 before Christian Bridle hit a late consolation for Shoreham, who are now bottom.
Second division Oakwood caused an upset as they won 4-0 away to division one side Selsey in the John O'Hara League Cup.
George Smith, 17, netted on his debut and his father, also George Smith, was among the other scorers.
James Grant and Ben King completed the tally in a convincing win.
There were no upsets in the Sussex RUR Cup although Southwick's 3-1 win at St Leonards was impressive.
Former Albion striker Terry Streeter continued his good recent form by netting the Wickers' second goal. Gary Rook and Jason Tighe also found the net with Dave Flemming hitting the lone reply.
Dan Jordan scored a last-minute penalty as Saltdean won 2-1 at Seaford.
Jordan netted his second goal of the game after Ian Costello had been brought down. Mark Doherty had earlier given Seaford the lead.
Goals from Ashley Martin, Abdou Ndoye and Scott Tipper helped understrength Sidlesham to a 3-0 win at Wick.
