Hundreds gathered to watch a display of vivid costumes and flaming torches at a bonfire procession.
The Burgess Hill Bonfire Society's annual celebrations lit up the town's streets on Saturday.
A fireworks display, a funfair and music from a selection of home-grown bands entertained onlookers well into the night.
Three and a half thousand hand-crafted torches, enough to stretch for one and a half miles if laid end to end, were burnt during the event.
Society secretary Claire Handford said: "It was a spectacular night and the atmosphere was amazing.
"The street collection raised almost £2,000 which is a record, so we are really chuffed about that too.
"The support from the town was great and a free event like this really brings people together."
The lucky programme number this year is 2233.

Hundreds of wooden torches due to be used in a Guy Fawkes procession have been destroyed by arsonists six weeks before bonfire night.
Fire crews were called to Royal George Road, in Burgess Hill, at 11pm on Saturday when neighbours reported the 200 torches, stacked in a parked trailer, were on fire.
