Sussex No.1 Ritchie Venner warmed up for this Sunday's Sussex Open Grand Prix at Crawley by winning a mixed tournament at Lydd, Kent.
In the final he defeated Chinese player Zhao Shuang who is No1 on the England woman's ranking list, 3-1.
Venner is ranked 12th because of the huge array of talent among the record entry of 250 this weekend.
Sussex champion Rose Rainton (Bexhill) has been seeded No9 in the women's singles where the top seed is the world No30 and former global singles quarter finalist Tong Feiming.
Play starts at Crawley Leisure Centre at 8.45am on both days. The sponsors are Butterfly and Ocean International Communications of Brighton.
Odds-on favourite to win the men's singles is the top seeded Chen Weixing, the Austrian-based world No23, who a fortnight ago reached the last eight at the Malaysian Open on the world professional tour.
