Sussex ace Sean Yates went right to the top when he wanted a rider to pace him in Redman CC's 18-mile time trial in Surrey.
He approached Bradley Wiggins, the world pursuit champion from Manchester, and Wiggins was delighted to help out the former Tour de France stage winner.
The race had the same format as the previous week's Lewes Wanderers event.
Each team had a veteran rider aged over 40 who was paced by another rider. Wiggins set a searing pace, but Yates (Team Clean), who at 43 is still one of the fastest riders in the country, stayed with him and the pair won the prize for the fastest team after setting a new record of 34mins 39secs.
The event produced a double triumph for Sussex as 71-year-old Harry Featherstone (Eastbourne Rovers), who was paced by clubmate Steve Frame, won the handicap prize. He clocked 41.04 and beat his age-related target time by 25.04.
Seaford rider Dave Pollard (In Gear) won a senior race at the weekend during the final meeting of the season at the Goodwood circuit.
Simon Berogna, last year's winner, heads the field for Bognor Regis CC's Goodwood Classic time trial on Sunday.
The 29-year-old Italian-born star heads a strong team from Hampshire club VC St Raphael.
The 28-mile course is a tough one and includes the climbs of Dog Kennel Hill, East Dean Hill and Benges Hill. Parts of the course was used for the 1982 World Road Race Championships.
Berogna's teammates include Rowan Shepherd (Rother Valley). The race headquarters is Lavant Village Hall and the first of the 71 riders starts at 8.30am.
The opening event in the Sussex Cyclo-Cross League also takes place on Sunday. East Grinstead CC expect a good entry for their meeting in Deer's Leap Park at Saints Hill Green.
All events can be entered on the day. The first race is at 11am and the Sussex League event is at 1pm.
