Bognor made it six games since they recorded victory and three league defeats on the trot as they were beaten by big spending Hornchurch.
Despite the scoreline, and having John Price sent off in the second half after a clash with Hornchurch's Vinny John, Rocks boss Jack Pearce was encouraged.
Pearce said: "Unlike last week when there was nothing positive to take from the defeat, this week there were some positives and we need to work on those and ensure as a team we put things right."
Pearce gave debuts to Adam Hay and Robert Collins and the Rocks had chances through Matt Russell and Richard Hudson.
Hornchurch's goals came from John Martin, Adam Locke and, after Price had been dismissed, John in the closing minutes.
