A dog was lucky to survive after being accidentally impaled on a 3ft-long wooden stake.
The seven-year-old pet was being walked by its owner in woods behind Kilnwood Lane, South Chailey, near Lewes, when the accident happened.
The stake pierced the dog's front left leg, leaving it howling in agony.
A woman walking her dog nearby called the emergency services.
The pet was sedated and the stake removed. The dog was taken to a vet in Lewes for treatment.
