On paper, two men wearing parkas and pulling stupid faces isn't funny. After all, how much hilarity can you wring from a pair of tatty all-weathers and a lot of gurning?

In the flesh, however, it seems Mick Dow and Maddy Sparham, the eponymous Men In Coats, know exactly what it takes to reduce an audience to hysterics.

Reminiscent of Laurel and Hardy's expert visual clowning, they used physical comedy and cleverly placed props to create an innocently amusing show which didn't resort to swearing, overly intelligent babble nor, indeed, any dialogue at all.

Their contemporary mime took the audience to a surreal place where one-eyed aliens and three-legged people were the norm.

It was performed at a blistering pace with jokes fired at the audience at lightning speed. Inevitably, some of the gags did miss their mark but were soon made up for with another moment of inspired lunacy and Dow and Sparham's silent but deadly delivery.

Flawlessly produced and effortlessly presented, Men In Coats is one of the most inventive and unique comedy shows you will ever see.
