The Argus' coverage of homosexuality and Christianity (October 20) seems to have missed the real issue - the place of Jesus Christ in Christianity.
Jesus is the founder of Christianity, Jesus defines Christianity and Christianity stands or falls with the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The invitation to follow Christ is universal and all-inclusive.
He lovingly accepts us just as we are but he also lovingly refuses to leave us as we are.
Following Christ means obeying his dynamic word for his word is truth and he plainly teaches that sexual intimacy is only sanctioned within marriage between one man and one woman.
This union of diversity is an image of God, who is also united in diversity. The Church is his Church and he has spoken definitively on this issue.
If we want to follow him we will obey him. We are free to follow him or reject him but let us stop calling our rejection of him "Christianity".
