A councillor who found a bag of mail dumped in his apartment block hallway was told to deliver it himself.
Arun district councillor Alan Gammon, of Kingsmere, South Terrace, Littlehampton, was even paid £20 for doing the round.
He said: "I saw the bag and rang up the post office.
"Initially they said they would send someone round but then they called back and said either to put it somewhere secure or deliver it myself."
He spent an hour and a half sorting and then delivered the post to more than 40 flats in his 12-storey building.
He said: "I was annoyed at the time but it has ended up becoming a comical story.
"I'm not thinking of taking it up full-time. It's not the sort of thing I usually go for."
Alan, an office supervisor, has now donated his pay to charity.
