I am amazed by the "policies" announced continually by the Tories and the benevolence they are showing to pensioners.
They had plenty of time to put them right during their 18 years of rule. Instead they were thrown out because of their incompetence.
During their period of office, I marched with thousands of other pensioners - not only for a better basic pension but to have an increase in fuel allowance and assistance with the television licence.
It all fell on deaf ears. It was left to the Labour government to give all those over 60 years £200 per household in fuel allowance with no strings attached and free TV licences for the over-75s.
So have the Tories changed?
When I was a boy in the late-Twenties, I remember my parents saying during an election: "You can't trust the Tories, they are like the leopard - they do not change their spots."
