Celebrity DJs Sarah Cox and Norman Cook broadcast to the nation live from Brighton seafront today to kick off Radio One's One Live event.
Sarah launched a week of musical mayhem as she presented her morning show from The Terraces cafe bar in Marine Parade.
Norman, aka Fatboy Slim, made the short trip up the coast from his home in Hove for the opening show.
Being good friends, the banter between the superstar DJ and Sarah kept the packed bar entertained before Norman asked listeners to guess his favourite Number One single.
Dozens of people crowded round the stars as they broadcasted the show from a table in the window of the cafe.
Norman had to leave straight after the show but The Argus caught up with Sarah just after she went off air.
She said: "I'm used to doing the show in a small basement in front of the same three or four people so it is different doing this sort of thing.
"I was a bit nervous at first because you can't help being a little self conscious with lots of people watching you.
"But having Norman along was brilliant as he is such a good mate."
Although Sarah was heading back to London today, she said she was a regular visitor to Brighton and Hove and was sure One Live week would be a success.
She said: "I'm just doing a one-off show down here but it would have been great to do a whole week's worth. It was lovely to be out here first thing and watch the sun rise over the sea.
"The city has a brilliant energy about it. We spent yesterday driving down the coast and it was really nice to see the kids out on their bikes and people out jogging on the beach.
"I love everything about the seaside and Brighton has got that great mix of cool stuff to do at night and the more traditional things like good old fish and chips."
Music fans will get to grill famous names during this week's shows.
The Honeyclub in Kings Road Arches has been transformed into the One Live Cafe for the week.
Steve Lamacq will teach indie kids how to record and package a demo properly, aspiring dance DJs can show their skills with a short set and would-be hip hop acts can get one-to-one feedback about their work.
There will also be a chance to meet famous faces, including Starsailor, hip hop guru Tim Westwood and there will be a week of live gigs at venues across the city.
One of the week's highlights will be the Pier Pressure quiz on Wednesday, with the likes of John Peel, Seb Fontaine and Jo Whiley squaring up to test their knowledge of pop music.
There will also be a chance for people looking to get into radio and TV to get hints and tips from those in the industry.
A handful of lucky early birds managed to grab themselves a ticket to today's show.
Angie Lee, of Marine Parade, said: "I got up at 6.30am and got in my car and drove round and round trying to find the bloke from Radio 1 who had the tickets.
"He was wearing a knotted hankie and I eventually found him on the beach. Even though I had my high heels on I ran over the pebbles screaming at him to give me a ticket."
Ms Lee immediately phoned her friend Juliette Brownlow, of Marine Terrace Mews. Ms Lee said: "It was well worth it. I'm a big fan of Norman Cook."
