I am a student at University of Sussex and bought a quarterly NUS saver pass which was valid from October 10 to January 9.

I lost the pass on a number 7 bus on October 26.

The next day I reported this to the police and acquired a lost property reference number.

When attempting to get the pass replaced, Brighton and Hove Bus Company said: "We are sorry we cannot replace the NUS bus pass as stated in our terms and conditions.

"However, if this was a normal saver pass of three months it could have been replaced with an additional service charge of £5."

Thus if the saver pass has not been returned the greater part of £90 is as good as lost.

A normal quarter saver bus passes costs £110.

I do not understand why such inconvenience is targeted at students for a mere £20.
