Hastings United's mini revival came to a halt as they lost 2-0 at home to Newport IoW.
Two second half goals gave the Islanders a victory they just about deserved, although Hastings could reflect on two opportunities in the opening quarter of an hour.
Steve Ringwood seemed certain to score with a well-struck shot from 12 yards but keeper Simon Arthur stuck out an arm and parried the ball for a corner.
Arthur was called into action again soon after, this time to deny Carl Rook. Hastings had other chances but Chris Honey and Rook both wasted free headers.
They were punished a couple of minutes into the second half when the home defence failed to clear and Ashley Wright made no mistake. Daniel Hatcher added a neat finish.
