Albion manager Mark McGhee wants to bolster the midfield as well as the forward line after Zesh Rehman was recalled by Fulham.
Rehman returned to the injury-hit Londoners for Sunday's match with Liverpool, wrecking McGhee's plans to keep him for the rest of the season.
Rehman was replaced by Robbie Pethick for McGhee's first match in charge, Saturday's 2-2 draw at Peterborough, which signalled the end of the 20-year-old's month on loan from Fulham.
McGhee said: "We are very disappointed. We could have played him, but I didn't think it would be right.
"If he becomes available again in a few weeks when their injury crisis eases then perhaps we will have him back again. We would certainly like that.
"He was brought here because they were short in midfield, so we will have to address that. We are looking already. We had some ideas last week even about one or two players, but one of them we fancied is injured.
"We have got reserve games to go to tonight and on Wednesday, so we are very active in trying to bring in one or two bodies."
Rehman revealed: "I only found out before the game that I wasn't playing. I was going to be starting, but then I had a quick word with the gaffer.
"I've really enjoyed my month here. I didn't expect to be going back, I thought I would be staying for longer.
"I'd love to come back. It has probably been the best month of my whole career."
McGhee was satisfied with Albion's first point for four games at Peterborough, achieved with equalisers in each half by 13-goal Leon Knight.
"We could have scored more goals and we are going to play that way to win games," McGhee said. "In this division you have to be prepared to to take a risk, to lose a goal without letting it affect you.
"There are games to be won in this League if you are aggressive and take the ball by the horns. Their second goal was a joke and I think the boys know that."
Knight said: "We were behind twice, so we have to put it down as a point gained. We weren't on our best form, but we played some good stuff in patches.
"As the gaffer gets involved more on the training field and we get to know his ideas then I think we will be a force."
McGhee takes charge at Withdean for the first time on Tuesday night against Boston in the LDV Vans Trophy.
He confirmed after Monday's training that Ben Roberts and Adam Hinshelwood will both face the third division strugglers.
