Who the hell do Peter Tatchell and Dion Mills think they are?
Mr Mills advocates flying the rainbow flag from the town hall (Letters, October 30). Why?
Gay men and women have been coming to visit and live in Brighton decade after decade.
Does he really think visitors from this country and abroad are going to take a look at the town hall and say: "Oh dear, there's no rainbow flag flying. Let's go somewhere else."
Where would they go? Eastbourne, Bournemouth, Hastings? I think not.
Not flying the rainbow flag has done nothing to stem the ever-increasing number of gay bars, clubs, shops and saunas from opening and thriving in Brighton.
Nor did it stop some 90,000 people coming to this year's Pride.
Most gay businessmen and women know exactly where their bread is buttered and where the pink pound is in abundance.
Mr Mills should realise there is also a huge number of heterosexuals living in Brighton.
They also spend huge amounts of money here. I don't see them clambering for a "straight flag".
However, the most dangerous voice belongs to Mr Tatchell in his call for "direct action" against organisations such as the police and the council (The Argus, October 31).
Rantings such as this are likely to increase homophobia.
