A man was trapped in his car with leg fractures for more than two hours after a crash on the A24 in West Sussex.
Paramedics carried out emergency trauma treatment and gave pain-killing injections while firefighters cut the victim free.
The crash happened at midnight last night on the northbound A24 at Ashington, near Storrington.
The car left the road, overturned and landed in a ditch.
Ambulance and fire crews freed one man from the rear of the vehicle but it wasn't until 2am that the driver was released.
Fire crews from Storrington and Worthing used hydraulic rescue equipment in the incident.
Both men were taken to Worthing Hospital.
