A PC forgot to put the handbrake on and watched his patrol car roll backwards down a hill and crash.
The Brighton officer was attending an accident caused by another driver doing the same thing.
That car rolled down a hill and landed on its roof.
The policeman was luckier - his vehicle ended up in undergrowth and was not damaged.
A sergeant and an inspector, who were supervising the PC at the time, helped the constable pull the patrol car back on to the road.
Sussex Police said the crash happened in August but declined to name the PC concerned.
