After another death on the A23 at Handcross Hill (The Argus, November 19), I have to ask: When will speed cameras be installed at one of Sussex's most dangerous black spots?
We hear from some of the county's most senior police officers that cameras are installed to reduce speed at accident black spots, not to catch wayward drivers.
Are cameras installed by looking at trends or just pot luck?
I have never heard the A23 past Preston Park or the Coast Road near Hove Lagoon called accident black spots but they both have speed cameras.
As a biker, I was unfortunate enough to be stopped for speeding at Preston Park in 1990 (and never since).
At the time, I was told by the police that the stretch of road past Preston Park produced more revenue in a week than any other area in Sussex did in a month.
If the police are serious about targeting black spots, surely Handcross Hill must be top of the list instead of the easy-pickings cameras that are popping up?
