To those of us who have suffered from Brighton and Hove City Council's low standards of housing management under Councillor Jack Hazelgrove and his predecessors over the years, it came as no surprise to learn that tenant activist Dave Barnard was forced out of his Moulsecoomb home (The Argus, November 28) after years of abuse by local yobs.
What is even more outrageous is that the housing chief was Mr Barnard's own ward councillor.
Now Whitehawk councillor Gill Mitchell is supporting the closure of the only secondary school in her ward against the wishes of her constituents, after years of decline under fellow councillor Pat Hawkes.
With the mess made by PFI contractors of Brighton and Hove's remaining schools and the threat of such people being let loose on our homes too (if they're not sold off to housing association profiteers first), few now feel any confidence in our town hall aristocracy.
Not only does nanny not know best, but she doesn't give two hoots for the wishes of those who elected her.
