In response to RH Read (Letters, December 3), a 7.5 per cent increase would only bring Gatwick Express train drivers' wage up to £30,331 per annum, not £37,000 as stated.
An increase of this amount would need a pay increase of 23.74 per cent.
I don't think RH Read has any notion of the training and responsibility of a train driver, who has much more responsibility to his passengers' safety than a bus driver.
I, too, am certain Brighton and Hove Bus and Coach Company drivers would welcome a rise of this proportion but in reality they receive a good wage and benefits package already, far superior to that of other bus companies.
