Christmas revellers in Horsham have been warned to be on the look out for bogus taxi drivers.
The festive season prompts an increase in non-licensed drivers as fares are increased in line with holiday timetables.
Horsham District Council officers are worried people could be getting into cars which are unsafe or they could be ripped off.
Andy Skipper, the council's licensing inspector, said: "All vehicles operating in the Horsham district are inspected regularly and thoroughly to ensure they are clean, mechanically sound, insured and, above all, safe.
"All drivers have passed a police criminal record check and a local area knowledge test and regularly undergo medical examinations to ensure they are fit to drive."
People taking a taxi or private hire vehicle are advised to look out for the licence plate on the rear bumper and the driver's identification badge.
