The anti-mobile phone mast brigade are increasingly sounding more desperate in their misguided rantings.
Lib-Dem councillor Paul Elgood suggests masts should be removed from all council properties (The Argus, December 3).
But he has overlooked a number of points:
1. Many of these masts have been in place more than 12 years. Surely something that has been there so long is not that dangerous? Indeed, many of these masts are in out-of-the-way locations.
2. The council would lose hundreds of thousands of pounds in ground rental. I suppose council tax-payers will make up the difference, eh Paul?
3. How would the people of Ovingdean, Patcham, Saltdean and Brighton and Hove feel when masts which support TV transmitting aerials are removed and they lose all their telly?
I suggest Coun Elgood turns his attention to more pressing matters such as our council tax bills, lack of care for the elderly and the parking to name just three.
