"So what kind of mood are you in?" asked Belle & Sebastian band leader and founder Stuart Murdoch in his lazy Scottish drawl.
Immediately, requests were heard for some of the unashamedly art school collective's best tracks - The State I Am In, Stars Of track And Field and The Boy With The Arab Strap.
But this wasn't what Murdoch meant. Instead, he wanted to know what the audience felt like, not what music they would like to have heard.
There was the feeling his confidence could backfire if someone demanded "Death Metal". That isn't to say Belle & Sebastian wouldn't have given it a damn good go, though.
The majority of the show featured material from the Trevor Horn-produced latest album Dear Catastrophic Waitress.
The man behind some of the more bombastic Eighties bands has injected carbonated gas into the mix, making new tracks such as I'm A Cuckoo and If She Wants Me seem to fizz with energy.
The set ended with an encore of Arab Strap, a classic which left the crowd dancing and smiling, which was exactly what we felt like.
