Lewes saw their HA Cup hopes end as they lost 3-1 away to lower league Holcombe, from South Premier division one.
Alistair Boyse gave Lewes the perfect start with a second minute goal from open play.
But Holcombe went through thanks to a hat-trick from 16-year-old Chris Bassano-Harper.
Lewes manager Paul Benoy said: "All three goals were scored from short corners by this 16-year-old who had the most amazing drag flick I have ever seen.
"It was a very good game. They had five short corners and scored from three of them. Their keeper made six really good saves including one world class save from Wayne Bennett.
"We had more opportunities but it was the usual story of not putting them away. We had nine short corners and didn't score from one."
Lewes hope to rectify their scoring problems with a new signing at Christmas.
