A 39-year-old motorcyclist injured in a collision with a car has been taken off the critical list.
He was in collision with a Ford Mondeo at 7.30am on Monday on the C7 just north of Piddinghoe, near Newhaven.
The motorcyclist, from Lewes, was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton but today his condition was said to be not life-threatening.
A police spokesman said: "We're no longer treating it as a potentially fatal incident."
The Mondeo driver, 54, from Seaford, was admitted to the Eastbourne District General Hospital with minor injuries.
The crash caused severe traffic congestion during yesterday's morning rush hour as investigators closed the road for about two hours.
Neither driver has been named.
