I have the utmost sympathy for the author of the letter (December 13) about the lack of suitable wheelchair taxis.
However, the fault for the shortage lies with councillors, not the taxi operators.
Following a number of complaints from wheelchair-bound people, Brighton and Hove City Council commissioned a report from transport specialists Halcrow.
One of the main findings was that the council should licence an extra 139 vehicles adapted to carry wheelchair-bound customers.
This would have sorted the problem within months. But our councillors decided they knew best and issued only 19.
So perhaps when they come asking for our vote, we should ask them why they discriminate against wheelchair users.
