Murder squad detectives have launched an investigation after the stabbing of a 43-year-old man.
The victim, Anthony Banks, from East Brighton, suffered head wounds in Mill Road, Lewes, at 3.30am yesterday following a disturbance.
Mr Banks was taken by ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, where he later died.
A 39-year-old man from the Lewes area was arrested on suspicion of murder and was today helping police with their inquiries.
The area round Mill Lane was sealed off and forensic experts were combing the scene for clues. Officers were carrying out house-to-house inquiries.
