On December 22, more than 100 deprived and lonely people sat down to a sumptuous meal and heart-warming entertainment at a homeless day centre, an event which could not have taken place without the support of some dedicated volunteers.
Sue Addis, of Donatello restaurant, who does this every year, provided this welcome meal - ably supported by her friends Denise and Steve Taylor.
Gloria McManus, whose music was uplifting, freely provided the entertainment. Thanks to the generosity of The Argus Appeal, we were able to provide 100 fleeced sweaters as gifts.
Local churches provided parcels containing useful gifts. Our people felt overwhelmed in the knowledge that people cared about them.
At short notice, the Mayor of Brighton and Hove, Mrs Jeane Lepper, attended the party. She shook the hands of many people, endearing herself to them. One person said to me: "It made my day."
This must have been the busiest time of the year for the Mayor but she gave her time willingly to these unfortunate people, some of whom have been cast out by society.
